Fabyan West Forest Preserve
The Fabyans’ Estate
George and Nelle Fabyan began acquiring land in Kane County along the Fox River in the early years of the 20th century after they purchased the 10-acre Harvey Farm in 1905.
By 1910 George and Nelle Fabyan made Geneva their permanent residence and continued to buy land to expand their estate. They amassed some 350 acres, straddling the Fox River,
which they turned in to a lavish estate they named Riverbank. Remnants of many of the unique features of Riverbank exist today, and add interest to a visit to the the Fabyan West Forest Preserve,
along with the Fabyan Villa Museum and Japanese Garden.
