The Forest Preserve is putting on their Maple Sugaring Days! The 1843 Durant House will be open both Saturday & Sunday, from 1-4PM, with specialized discussions about how the pioneers used maple sugar and cooking up some maple sugar and bean stew. The Durant House has a suggested donation of $2 per adult and $1 per child. Make a day of it and spend the afternoon exploring the LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve!
Maple Sugaring Days! is being held at the Leroy Oaks County Forest Preserve hosted by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.
"The sap is flowing! Join us for Maple Sugaring Days, March 3 & 4 from 1-4 p.m. at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles. Learn the art, science and folklore of the "sugar bush" or maple grove. See how to tap a maples and try drilling and setting your own tap. Watch sap simmer over an open fire, as it thickens to syrup. Naturalists will lead a "Sugarin' Time" hike, and teach how to distinguish maples from other species of hardwoods. Locally produced maple syrup will be available for purchase. Plus, Creek Bend Nature Center will be open to explore. All are welcome to this fun, free event. LeRoy Oakes FP is located at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles."
