ARTIFACT DONATION
to preservation partners
As we strive to maintain museum standards and strengthen our collections, we have adopted policies and procedures to manage our artifacts. We accept donations of artifacts to individual Museums or to the PPFV Library and Education Collection to help us as we provide historical education to the community, local schools, and to our members. However, due to space and preservation considerations, we cannot accept all offers of artifacts.
Artifact Donation FAQ
What types of donations are you accepting?
We are most interested in artifacts that relate to one of our Museums, to the families and people associated with our Museums, or to historic landmark preservation and education associated with Kane County Illinois.
What items do you not accept?
We do not accept items that do not have a direct connection to our Museums or historic landmark preservation and education associated with Kane County Illinois.
What is done with artifacts that are donated?
When an item is accepted, it will be added to our official artifact inventory record.
Will my donation be on display?
All accepted donations are valuable to us and we wish every item could be on display. Due to the limited space in our Museums, donated items may either be on permanent display, temporary display, or may not be on display. The status of display will be made by the PPFV Director in charge at the time.
How will my donation be credited if it is placed on display?
PPFV does not identify donors of specific items. We do not use tags or labels showing donors unless there is an agreement at the time of the donation.
Where are the artifacts if they are not on display?
Items that are not on display will be stored in a manner that is appropriate for the artifact in question.
May I get my donation back in the future?
Unless an agreement is made in advance, when a donation is made to PPFV, the item becomes our property and we are at liberty to do with it what we choose.
