Pigeon Talk

  • Fabyan Forest Preserve 1925 S. Batavia Ave. Geneva, IL 60134 (map)

Homing pigeons have long played an important role in war. Due to their homing ability, speed and altitude, they were often used as military messengers. In fact, one of Nelle Fabyan’s hobbies was raising homing pigeons for use in WWI!

Please join Harry Stewart, a member of the American Racing Pigeon Union, as he shares his expertise on how pigeons were trained to deliver messages, how homing pigeons find their way home, the Pigeon Hall of Fame, and more. Mr. Stewart will bring some of his exhibition cages, pigeons, signal deciphers and handouts for adults and kids. Weather permitting there will be a Pigeon Release at the end of the program!
