Fines Continue for Wrapped Blacksmith Shop

Last week, a hearing officer for building code violations ruled that the wrap around the landmarked former blacksmith shop (also known as the Mill Race Inn) prevents the City of Geneva from inspecting the building.

The ruling continues the $750 daily fine.

RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

In September, the property owner submitted a preliminary residential development proposal for the approximately 2 acres of riverfront property. The proposal includes three five-story buildings with 84 residential units. The renderings do not make clear whether or not the blacksmith shop would be demolished or how it might be incorporated into the development. Information on the Mill Race Residences proposal can be found on the City of Geneva’s Development Project Page.

Public hearings on the development are expected to begin later this year.
